This Year for Pride Month, Hornet Is #ProudOutLoud

Happy Pride Month! The month of June has long been special for members of the LGBTQ community, as it’s a time for the world to commemorate Pride Month, in honor of the Stonewall Uprising that sparked a global gay rights movement in 1969. Hornet is kicking off Pride 2022 with #ProudOutLoud, an in-app campaign that will see Hornet users from around the globe flood the app with their posts celebrating Pride and the LGBTQ community.

With #ProudOutLoud, we want to show that it’s never been more important to be vocal about LGBTQ issues as a means of resistance — whether we’re resisting oppressive legislation or any other group, government or individual who wants to malign our community.

2022 has seen the rise of anti-trans and anti-gay legislation across the United States, most specifically.

Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” Bill, which states that “classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards” was passed in March, and since similar bills have been popping up in GOP-controlled states.

And there have been several bills attempting to ban trans people, including trans kids, from sports at all levels. Then there’s the Texas Anti-Transgender Directive, which encourages vigilante reporting of families who support the health of their trans children to Child Protective Services.

Meanwhile in 2022 there are still nearly 70 countries around the globe that criminalize LGBTQ people.

With all of this happening, we’ve decided that on Hornet, Pride 2022 is about showing the strength of our community and our determination to fight against oppression — even more loudly than we have before.

Use the hashtag #ProudOutLoud in your Hornet posts to celebrate Pride 2022.
